Eligibility

Parents and regular education teachers often approach Special Education teachers with questions concerns about students. A central part of helping others deal with their concerns for students is promoting an understanding what type of assistance is available and the process for accessing that assistance. If a teacher or parent suspects a disability or other handicapping condition is impacting a student’s education, accommodations can be provided through general education services or special education services. The following chart provides a basic overview of the process involved in determining a student’s eligibility for services.
